Have you started driving targeted traffic with online video yet? If you have, the results are incredible, aren’t they? If you haven’t, it has to be because you haven’t yet realized it’s rapidly becoming the number one way to build traffic on the Internet today.

The subject of using videos in Internet marketing or affiliate marketing is top-of-mind for me today, since I’m creating a video tutorial on the subject just for my students in the PowerStart Marketing Coaching Program. But while this tutorial is just for them and won’t be available outside of the classes, I still wanted to share some thoughts with you about this powerful form of traffic generation.

First, of course, uploading your marketing videos to sites like YouTube and Viddler can bring you a lot of attention – especially if your video catches the public’s fancy and they start sharing it, embedding it on their blogs and telling friends about it. Some of these ‘viral videos’ have ended up with MILLIONS of views and great response – just think about the branding factor alone!

Second, if you’re an internet marketer with an affiliate program, you can make your videos available to your affiliates to use in their marketing mix, making it easier for them, and you, to make more money online. And nothing motivates affiliates, even super-affiliates, like making money hand-over-fist!

Third, using videos as part of your online marketing efforts can double or triple your response from social sites like Twitter. It’s much easier to get social traffic to click a link to your article, blog post or video than it is to a squeeze page or salespage – unless, of course, the video is on one of those two, in which case you invite them to view the video without saying anything about the page it’s on.

Fourth, videos get you into the video directories, of course – meaning wider exposure for your marketing message. Your site gets you into the search engines like Google, Yahoo & Bing, your articles get you into article directories like EzineArticles and GoArticles, your blog gets you into the blog directories like Tehnorati & MyBlogLog, your audios get you into the podcast directories like iTunes & Podcast Alley, and your videos get you into video directories like YouTube & Viddler. PS – Keep in mind that you can use these videos as they are, but if other people embed them your link may not be added to their site. To avoid others using your video to push their copy, add your URL right into the video, preferably at the top of it so nothing can hide it. You’re going to be a famous movie star! If you want to succeed on the Internet and build traffic to your site, you can do so by producing your own videos. They don’t have to be music videos or great works of fiction; they can be about anything and everything. Creating videos is very easy, and it is a great way to build web traffic!

To create the video, you will need a web cam, or a video camera that can be connected to your computer so that you can upload the video that you make. You may also need video editing software as well, and there are numerous such programs on the market to choose from. You will need an account at YouTube.com or at Google Videos. You should also post your videos to your own website.

Next, you need to create the video. Put a lot of thought into this. For instance, if you had a website about dogs, you might make a video that shows you clipping a dogs nails, in a way that teaches others how to properly do this. Dog owners will be very interested in such a video. Of course, you will want to use your video editing software to put your website URL on the video as well, so that it is displayed the entire time that the video is running.

Once you have a good video, submit it to the video sites, and get it on your website as well. You can also make videos using software that creates videos of what is going on as you do things on your computer screen. These can be tutorial type videos that teach others how to do certain things, or how to use certain software.

If you don’t want to be a movie star, you don’t have to be. Instead, surf through the video sites and find videos that other people have done, on your topic, and post them on your website or blog. Send out an email to your list and let them know that it is there. Put a line about it with a URL to the video in your signature file – just let people know that you found this great video, and that they can view it on your website.

Internet marketers are finding that people don’t read as much as we would like them to. Therefore, their sales copy and site content isn’t getting the results that they really want – or attracting nearly enough website traffic. But everybody likes to watch videos about topics that interest them. All they have to do is watch and listen – they don’t have to read. Furthermore, most systems today have the capability to view videos in various different formats.

Even if you doubt that you will get good targeted traffic using online videos, at least give it a try. The chances are high that you will be pleasantly surprised at the amazing traffic results and that making or finding videos for your website visitors will become a regular and enjoyable task for you. Just remember – people really do like and enjoy video, and you can use that to its fullest advantage to bring more traffic to your sites & blogs. You may even want to set up your own ‘video channel’, like Champigny TV.
